Bella Mia of Midlothian (yes, Midlothian, not that there is anything wrong with Midlothian) is a worthwhile entry into the Chicagoland food location lists.
It's a neighborhood restaurant housed next to a bar named Sullivan's. Same owner has the bar in tow as well. It turns out the owner is a descendant of both Italian and Irish immigrants. Hence, the side by side locations.
The food was excellent all the way around. Chicken Parmigiana is not nearly as easy to make as one might think. I'm a pretty good cook (sounds arrogant, but I'm a pretty good cook) and take my word for it, there is a great deal that goes into an excellent Chicken Parmigiana. The one served up at Bella Mia is not haute cuisine, but then it doesn't need to be. It's Chicken Parmigiana and this one is served superbly.
Pastas and salads are good. Bella Mia offers a wide ranging selection of well-prepared and familiar offerings. Escarole soup was excellent. It was old school Southern Italian and that is a high compliment. Shrimp scampi is one of the best versions of this seafood staple that one can find on the south side of Chicago.
Take a ride. If you are in the South Suburbs don't miss checking in with Bella Mia for a nice lunch or dinner. It's a superb location for a group outing, a romantic meal or a family get together.
Live entertainment is presented on Thursday evenings.
